ANNOUNCEMENT: A New Chapter for Shutter Hub

Welcome to the new Shutter Hub! You might have noticed, we’ve made some pretty big changes.

After a decade of work championing photographers and fostering creative collaboration, we’ve made a major leap forward in our mission to democratise photography by completely relaunching our platform as a membership-free, open, and inclusive resource for photographers worldwide.

We’ve spent the past ten years creating meaningful opportunities for photographers, including exhibitions, publications, portfolio reviews, and industry connections. Our guiding principle has always been community over profit in order to grow the network and elevate artists at all levels.

We never set out to be a profit-making organisation. Everything has gone into supporting photographers – time, energy, funding – all with the aim of building something bigger than ourselves. While our membership model helped sustain our work, we want to eliminate barriers and reach a wider community. And so the time has come to transform Shutter Hub into a truly open-access platform.

“Even though we’ve supported many photographers through free memberships, mentorships, grants and equipment, I want to do more. By removing the paywall, we can build a more inclusive space where more people benefit — no matter their background or financial situation. For us, this is more than a financial investment; it’s an investment in people, photography, and the power of creative connection. We still have work to do, but I’m proud of how far we’ve come and excited for what’s next.” – Karen Harvey MBE, Founder and Creative Director, Shutter Hub.

Our relaunch includes the redevelopment of our Shutter Hub website – making it more accessible and streamlined. We’ll still offer the same high-quality opportunities and resources – exhibitions, collaborations, support – but without requiring a paid membership. We will also continue our Camera Amnesty, which supports individuals and community initiatives with free cameras and photographic equipment.

We invite everyone in the creative community – photographers, partners, supporters – to join us in this new chapter and help shape a more accessible future for photography. This is for you!
